Discovering Urban Planet.

I usually shop at Warehouse One whenever I want some clothes on the cheap, especially when they’re trying to get rid of their old styles to make room for the new styles. Ever since the summer weather started here in Winnipeg a few days ago, I’ve been finding a need to pick up some boardshorts or walkshorts to combat the heat. So, today, I followed Ian to work and went to Warehouse One to check out what they had – the store was very nicely designed and spacious, but I didn’t like what I saw. Both the new and sale items were lacking any quality designed merchandise. The newest fashions were asking $35 per boardshort. Considering the fact that I could pick up some designer brands like Billabong, Quiksilver, and Element for $5 more at West 49, and in colors and designs I actually like, I was somewhat put off by that. So, I decided to go across the street to Portage Place, where I checked out International Clothiers. Once again, nothing favorable, but the prices were slightly better at $30 per boardshort. Finally, after walking to the other end of the mall and the next floor up, I saw Urban Planet. After browsing around, I found some colors and styles that I actually wanted, and in prices that my budget could agree with – $20 for 2 boardshorts! I immediately found two that I wanted, and although I could have picked two more, I only required two for now. In addition, I saw some nice polos and ziphoods also for the same $20 for 2 deal. Unfortunately, I had to pass since I already have an abundance of clothes, but at $15 for each item, it’s hard to argue with even the regular price if I want to buy them later on.

After the jump, Urban Planet’s website (which doesn’t showcase everything they actually have).

Shame on Warehouse One this year. Since I love blue, a lot of my apparel purchasing decisions are made based on this color and its variants like aqua, turquoise, sky blue, ocean blue, etc. Even if it’s mixed with other colors, they need to coordinate or contrast well (like my Billabong brown and turquoise ziphood). Unfortunately, WHO did not have this color in my aesthetic requirement.
